Green-fingered residents of Norfolk House have been making up for lost time!
Norfolk House in Leominster is one of our ‘Health Hubs’. Here, residents had just experienced a large renovation project taking 12 months to complete, with the final external works being completed in July 2020.
Our residents here are keen gardeners and we were fortunate to be able to change the existing flower beds into raised beds which allow easier access for all abilities and mobility levels. After almost 4 seasons of limited access, the garden group have been back out in August, topping up their vitamin D, getting some physical exercise and focusing on positive things other than Covid 19. Some residents have kindly purchased new plants and shrubs. We also have a lovely new ‘Potting shed’ so residents can stay warm & dry and still get their green fingers in the soil.
Finishing the garden has provided an opportunity to for residents to get outside safely, just as many residents were coming out of ‘shielding’ due to the current pandemic. It has given them the opportunity to see and talk to one another and provided a small sense of normality. We have been proud that our residents have been able to initiate arrangements themselves without our scheme staff co-ordinating.
Alongside this our staff have been able to secure internal funding for £3,500 to purchase new garden furniture. Due to arrive soon, this will no doubt provide more residents with the opportunity to enjoy the our little green paradise whether for a cuppa with neighbours, knitting or just catching up on the latest local happenings.
