When you pull together as a community, great things can be achieved.
‘Leominster In Bloom’ is an event that takes place every year run by a group of volunteers whose objectives are to: Promote and enhance the town and to encourage partnerships between voluntary, statutory and business sectors. It represents the town in the Heart of England and Britain in Bloom competitions. The theme this year was children’s literature.
As revamp work is currently underway with access to the communal garden restricted, residents at our Norfolk House retirement scheme didn’t think they were going to be able take part in the event this year however, with a little over two weeks to go it was decided that with their determination a banner of flowers could be made to show their support. With help from friends and families from the local Baptist church the banner was created to reflect the classic children’s book; ‘ The Secret Garden’. Many hours were spent knitting and crocheting flowers for the banner with one resident even managing to knit over 200 flowers for other displays around the town!
Judging took place on 5 July and we’re all hoping that Leominster is awarded a Gold medal.
This project has demonstrated that when you all pull together as a community, great things can be achieved.
Good luck to everyone who took part – you should be so proud of your achievements!
