My blog: Volunteering at Chaddesley Court retirement living scheme
This is a blog from our second group of volunteers; Lauren, Pak-Yin and Daisy who started their three week placement at our Chaddesley Court retirement living scheme on Tuesday 13 August.
Week 2
Date: Wednesday 21 August 2019
"Our duty today was to welcome and inform all residents in Chaddesley Court about the upcoming activities by posting leaflets to them.
We also experimented with the 'experience table' - finding the games available and suitable on there, deciding other games to add and planning games for the next day. We came to the conclusion that the table had various games suitable for everyone's interests. For example, mathematics, fruit matching, music, puzzles, icebreakers, memories and photos. It was really interesting to see how the table can help those with dementia to stimulate their brain and aid their interaction with others.
We also spoke to a few residents during a coffee morning."

Week 1
Date: Tuesday 13 August 2019
"Today, Lauren, Pak-Yin and I started our volunteering placement at Chaddesley Court. We volunteered through Headstart to develop our skills in customer service, help to boost our confidence and challenge ourselves. After our time here we're all hoping to go to college/sixth form to complete 'A' Levels in September.
To kick things off we had a 'meet and greet' in the communal lounge where we spoke to some of the residents and got to know them. They told us about their lives and how long they have lived at the scheme. They also told us about their past experiences regarding work and education.
Later, we had a tour by Liv and Kev who work at the scheme. We discovered that at Chaddesley Court they have amazing facilities including a games room and a hair salon. They also have communal areas where the residents can socialise.
We also got to learn about Stonewater."
