Week 3

Date: Wednesday 28 August 2019

“Today Vanakay and I helped a resident with the gardening, we helped by digging up some flowers with a tool and removing them from the area into the residents newly acquired compost bin.

Later we sat down and discussed what to do for our arts presentation. We came up with an idea to do a poster on the whiteboard as a thank you note to the residents, Helen and Kevin, and we also added pictures.”

Week 2

Date: Wednesday 21 August

“Today we helped some of the residents register to their Stonewater “MyHome” account. This involved helping them to set up an email account and passwords. They now have a clearer understanding of using modern technology.

This allows them to access their rent payments and service charges and makes it easier for them to chase repairs and see what “Reward” category they are currently placed in.”

Week 1

Date: Monday 12 August 2019

“Today, Vanakay and I, both about to start college/sixth form, volunteered at St David’s Court (through Headstart) and did numerous things to help the residents.

Firstly, we helped some of the residents with accessing apps within their Smart TV, ensuring that they understood how to access it and were happy with it. We also helped set-up a plethora of apps which were on the Smart TV that was located in the communal area. This now gives all the residents’ access to YouTube, Netflix and BBC iPlayer.

Secondly, we helped Sam out with the gardening to ensure that the plants that were in the garden were watered and healthy.

We got to learn about Stonewater and the retirement living scheme through having a tour with Helen and Kevin before meeting with Age UK and taking part in the weekly exercise classes where we got to meet more of the residents.”
