Beware of fake DWP texts

There are scam texts going around that target customers who are currently receiving cost-of-living payments or may be eligible for them. At the same time, there is a fake Universal Credit (UC) app  circulating.

Some of these scam messages may mention payments or subsidies to help with your heating or living costs this winter.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is urging everyone to stay alert and avoid falling for these scams or clicking on any links.

Remember, if you qualify for DWP cost-of-living payments, they will be sent directly to you—you don’t need to apply.

What to Do if You Receive a Scam Message:

  • Do not respond or click any links in the text message. Always use the official DWP Universal Credit website for information.
  • If you’ve already shared personal information or made a payment, you can find guidance on how to protect yourself here.
  • Important: The government does not have an app for UC on google play or App store, so do not download any that you see.

Stay safe and be aware!
