#RealPeople #RealLives – Stanley
Meet Stanley from one of our retirement schemes in The Midlands who has the most amazing positive take on life…
Stanley, and his partner Dorothy, moved into one of our retirement living schemes in The Midlands three years ago.
The devoted duo were completely inseparable but in early 2018 Dorothy became ill and tragically died.
Stanley was having treatment for bladder cancer at the time but despite his grief and ill health he remained unbelievably positive declaring he would not become a victim of social exclusion or self-pity.
To that end, and within only a few months of Dorothy’s death, Stanley had researched local clubs and classes for weekly coffee mornings and dance afternoons. He regularly attends most of the many lively events we hold within our retirement scheme, including; twice weekly bingo nights, Age UK exercise classes and a weekly pedometer step challenge!
Not only does Stanley do all this, he also finds time to dance four times a week at different venues around the local area and undertake voluntary work twice a week for; the Women’s Voluntary Service (WVS) where a few men help out, and a local community church.
Stanley continues to uphold his upbeat approach to life, even though he’s still waiting for confirmation to whether or not his cancer is in remission, and tells us: “Life’s too short to be miserable” - a very fitting statement from a man who is going to be 90 years young later this year and still lives life to the full.
Hat’s off to you Stanley!
