Stock Condition Surveys - why are they important?

Every five years, we do a survey of each of our customer’s homes to find out more about the condition they’re in. This information helps us to build our planned maintenance schedule to replace things like kitchens, bathrooms, boilers, windows and roofs.

We know how important your home is to you, so allowing us to carry out these surveys will help us make sure it’s in the best condition for you and your family.

Who will carry out the survey?

In previous years, we’ve used an external company to carry out all our stock condition surveys. We’ve made changes to the process and now have a specialist team of experienced surveyors within Stonewater to carry out the surveys. This means that we can make this service more personable, raise issues for you and work closely with other teams to make sure these are resolved quickly.

You should always check the ID of anyone who asks for access to your home, and you can always call us to check if something doesn’t seem right.

What to expect

We’ll send you a letter or text message to let you know when our surveyor will be in the area.

If you’re not home when we visit, we’ll leave a calling card with the surveyors’ details so you can get in touch with a date that works for you.

Step one: Preparing for your survey

Before the survey, we’d really appreciate you making sure your loft space, if you have one, is accessible. We also ask that you put any pets away so that we can carry out the survey without disturbing them.

Step two: Inside your home

We’ll check all the components inside your home to make sure everything is safe and working as it should. This will include:

  • Checking kitchen cupboards and fittings
  • Looking for any damp and mould
  • Inspecting fixtures and fittings such as taps, showers and electrics to make sure they are working properly
  • Check the condition of your boiler and make sure it’s been serviced
  • Inspect smoke alarms

Step three: Outside your home

We’ll take a look at the brickwork and pointing, any paving slabs, roof tiles, guttering and your windows and doors. We do this to make sure everything is secure and in good condition.

If we find any issues or something that needs replacing, our surveyors will raise the jobs for you after your survey.

How long will it take?

Although each home is different, the surveys can take up to 60 minutes.

We know that letting someone into your home can sometimes be an inconvenience, but it’s really important that we carry out these surveys to give us a clear understanding of your home and the condition it’s in. This will help us keep your home safe, comfortable and well looked after.
